1) Lower East Side: Pop Karma, a new artisanal popcorn store, opened on Orchard Street yesterday in the former il Laboratorio del Gelato space. DNAinfo learns that the shop uses organic corn and all natural ingredients. 2) Greenpoint: : A new coffe shop called Brooklyn Point Cafe is now open on Manhattan Avenue in the space that formerly housed Happy End Polish Cuisine. The cafe serves drip coffee and espresso drinks as well as bagels and pastries. Status: Certified Open; 924 Manhattan Ave.
3) Harlem: Flo Fab reports that Jessamyn W. Rodriguez, owner of Hot Bread Kitchen bakery, has opened a retail stand in La Marqueta called Hot Bread Almcen. Rodriguez has been selling her breads, crackers, and tortillas to restaurants and stores since 2010 and has put Ben Hershberger (Bouchon Bakery, Per Se) in charge of her first retail spot. 4) East Village: Moroccan restaurant Zerza, which shut its doors in May, has reopened in a new space just up the street. The Local East Village learns that the new location has about 10 more seats and only serves beer and wine. Owner Radouane Eljaouhari is also utilizing some of the tools left behind by former Indian restaurant Angon like a clay tandoori oven which he uses instead of a grill.
