Four months ago, the dining world was rocked by the news that Cesar Ramirez's grocery store/three Michelin star restaurant Brooklyn Fare was headed to Manhattan. Owner Moe Issa originally said that it would open in June or July, but a walk-by of the space at 431-39 West 37th St. today shows that the restaurant/store is nowhere near close to opening.
The windows are plastered with leasing promotions for Mantena Rentals, the 12-story luxury apartment building slated to go above Brooklyn Fare. Employees at Mantena say Brooklyn Fare will wrap around the lobby of the apartment building, but they have no idea when the store will actually open. An early winter 2013 opening sounds about right.
