Rumors about a New York restaurant from DC-based chef Jose Andres have been floating around for months. And now USA Today confirms that the acclaimed chef will open a version of his restaurant The Bazaar at the just-announced SLS hotel on Park Avenue South and 30th Street. The Beverly Hills outpost of the SLS is home to the original location of Andres's The Bazaar.
SLS owner Sam Nazarian notes that this brand new hotel project will also have a nightlife venue on the roof, and he hopes to open five to 10 branches of his Umami Burger restaurant in New York over the next three years. The SLS hotel is slated to open next spring.
UPDATE: Jose Andres tweets: "im not yet involve in @SLSHotel NY...." A new article from the Post also notes that "Nazarian is in discussions with chef José Andrés about the hotel’s ground-floor restaurant." So it sounds like the restaurant is not a done deal just yet. Eater has reached out to Andres's camp for more details.
UPDATE 2: Although USA Today reported that Andres was bringing the Bazaar to SLS NYC, it turns out that's not the case. Andres is the Culinary Director for SLS Hotels, so he will be advising on the SLS NYC. The chef writes in:
I'm happy for Sam and SBE and the SLS team to be coming to New York, such an amazing city. As Culinary Director for SLS Hotels, I am very proud of the success we have had in LA and now Miami and I will be advising SBE on the food and beverage program for the Park Avenue South location in New York. For me and my team, however, we are focused on Miami and our progress for SLS in Las Vegas as well as several other projects I have in the works. While we have no plans to open The Bazaar in New York, we continue to pursue many options with SBE and SLS and look forward to these future projects together.· New York's Nomad Area Lands Another Sexy Hotel [USA Today]
