Sullivan St. Opening Sandwich Spot in Chelsea

A while ago, rumors circulated that the now shuttered, senior-citizen-stomping-ground Les Desirs Patisserie was being replaced by Sullivan St. Bakery. NYMag reports that the new spot from bread and pizza man Jim Lahey is moving forward, with plans to open soon. The man behind the signature loaves and pizzas has plans to open what sounds like a full-blown restaurant just up the street from his pizzeria Co.

The new location on Ninth Avenue will be 24 seats, with two standing tables, which Lahey compares to being, “like Otto without the marble.” Along with serving the signature loaves and Roman-style pies he's known for, the restaurant will also offer beer and wine on tap, sandwiches, and jam-filled crostatas. There will definitely be a tuna sandwich on the menu, as Lahey believes they are, "the cornerstone of sandwichdom." There are also plans to serve a take on the classic ham and cheese and a "reconstructed chickpea fritter."
