Here's a look around Toy, the new restaurant/club in the old Tanuki Tavern space. This is a joint project between nightlife brothers Daniel and Derek Koch and El Chod's China Grill Management. The menu includes shareable Asian plates like shrimp toast, lobster dumplings, and a roasted chicken. The space has several dining areas, a raw bar, a cocktail bar, a lounge, a terrace, and lots of menacing lamps and shiny black booths. Aeon Flux fans are going to love this place.
A few weeks ago, the Koch brothers remarked:
While the area has some great Asian establishments, few have delivered the sex appeal that we are creating with TOY...Dinner has shifted from just a meal to a fully immersive setting that transitions into a night out...We want to raise the bar.But will it be more successful than Scott Disick's Asian-themed MePa club/restaurant Ryu? That's anybody's guess. Toy is now open for dinner and late night snacking, but lunch and brunch should roll out in a few weeks.
