Ivan Orkin, ramen guru and owner of the two uber popular Ivan Ramen shops in Tokyo, will open his first location outside of Japan by the end of this year. A native New Yorker, Orkin has been making a name for himself in the ramen world since opening the original Ivan Ramen in 2007. And now Grub Street learns that he has been shopping for real estate and meeting with investors in New York for the last several months.
The chef is in full research mode now, testing recipes and creating a menu that will work with his new set of available ingredients. In the meantime, Orkin can be found making guest appearances at Gato Bizco Cafe in Atlanta next week and at Momofuku Noodle Bar on July 17th. His Momofuku appearance will feature Ivan Ramen's shio ramen, hiyashi shio ramen, and mazemen, and will start at 5:30 p.m. sharp.
