Around this time last year, news broke that the owners of L'Artusi and Dell'Anima were planing a new Italian restaurant in the First Street space that formerly housed Bowery Wine Co. Now Grub Street learns that the project will be called L'Apicio, and it should open in a few months.
Chef Gabe Thompson, of L'Artusi and Dell'Anima, will create an "Italian inspired" menu, and Joe Campanale will be in charge of the wine and cocktails. When the team originally appeared before the CB 3, they wanted to open in both the Bowery Wine space and the adjacent space, but the owners of the property didn't want to lease any more storefronts. Looks like they've worked things out with the management, as they'll be moving into the original space and the one next door.
Hopefully Epicurean Management will have more luck with this project than they did with Ellabess in the Nolitan Hotel, which closed after just seven months.
