East Village Bar Nice Guy Eddie's to Close on Sunday

New, 13 comments

And another low-end East Village watering hole bites the dust. As expected, Avenue A sports bar Nice Guy Eddie's is closing up shop to make way for a new project from the owner of Gallery Bar. The Local EV learns that the owners are throwing a goodbye party on Sunday, which will be the bar's last day in business. In a 2010 A Beer At... piece about the bar, Robert Simonson wrote:

Inside, the scene is free of East Village attitude. It's a big, boxy space, with plenty of mismatched tables, ripped-up chairs and neon beer signs, and a pool table in back. It's not a dive; it's just not taken care of that well. (Give it ten years and, with no upkeep, it may graduate to dive bar status.)
At April's CB 2 Meeting, Darren Rubell of Gallery Bar said that he wanted to open an American comfort food restaurant in the space. That sweet, sweet Kiss mural will probably be the first thing to go.
