Earlier today, the Daily News published its first restaurant review in almost three years. The byline was given to Stan Sagner, but as it turns out, he's not the only critic that the paper has hired. The Times learns that Sagner will share reviewing duties with Michael Kaminer, a writer who published a series of books about dining solo, and who also wrote online reviews for New York magazine. Here's a picture of him, right next to Sagner. The two critics will trade off each week, and the features editor at the Daily News says that there might even be "guest critics" from time to time. They're both working on a freelance basis.
These two new hires come at a time when many, many newspapers are cutting staff and axing their restaurant coverage. Head over to Eater National for a breakdown of all the critic casualties across the country.
