BR Guest's Bunker Club Closes After Two Year Run

New, 22 comments

A shocker from the MePa, as the Bunker Club unexpectedly and abruptly shut down for good yesterday afternoon. The not quite two-year-old club was owned by BR Guest and operated for a time by Matt Abramcyk. It enjoyed the unique position of existing literally beneath Ninth Avenue. But yesterday a BR Guest rep emailed to say, "effective immediately 1920 Bunker Club . . . is closed for business. The partners thank all the guests who have brought the party and energy to Bunker over the past two years." A club insider tells Eater that the move was made because Bunker just wasn't profitable any longer.

Bunker seemed to be the perfect setting for a great club. It is located smack dab in the middle of the Meatpacking District with no neighbors to complain about noise or traffic, it has no windows, and was designed with a giant dance floor that seemed to invite revelry. But BR Guest is on a shutter tear right now (RIP Kibo) and Abramcyk is busy himself ruling over the Tribeca restaurant scene, so now we wait to see if someone decides to take this project on.
