Steve Kamali To Launch Hospitality Staffing Site

New, 13 comments

Restaurant broker Steve Kamali is launching a new service called The Chef Agency, which will help hotels and restaurants around the world find kitchen and service staff. In a new Commercial Observer profile, Kamali explains that the site is still in beta form right now, but he notes that, "We would like to be the first call when the Four Seasons in Asia needs a new chef du cuisine." Expect that to launch sometime in the next year.

Kamali also shares the story of how he got into the business 12 years ago:

I guess I was one of the individuals who didn’t have the privilege of a family business that I can go into, and I wasn’t privileged as far as resources, so brokerage was the one way where I could pick up a phone and literally grab a Zagat and start calling people and say, "Would you consider selling your restaurant?"
Apparently, Kamali is working to bring a restaurant to the Gagosian Gallery on the Upper East Side, although no word yet on who the chef will be or what the food will be like.
