East Village's Vandaag Shutters Before Second Birthday

Today, Eater receives word from Vandaag owner Brendan Spiro that the East Village Dutch/Danish bistro is no more. After a few chef shuffles and adding a take out window just a few weeks ago, the Vandaag team has called it quits. Fans of the menu featuring items like Wurstelstand, pickled beef franks, and minced pork sausages shouldn't fret too much, as most the the team recently opened a new spot, Woodland, in Brooklyn. Although the menu will be different, Spiro says that the attention to detail and the level of cuisine should remain the same.

A farewell note from the Vandaag team sounds sad but upbeat: "It is with much regret that we wish to inform all of our loyal patrons about a recent decision to close Vandaag...Fortunately, we were able to move most of our team to new digs in Brooklyn. There, we are happy to be able to serve as always, with excellence and hospitality."
