Upper East Side restaurant Desmond's, which opened only a little over a year ago, is temporarily closed for renovations. A tipster sent word that the space looked like it was currently not accepting guests, which a recording on the office phone confirmed as true. The plan is to reopen by June 1.
The clubby-chic restaurant is located within the former office and showroom of interior designer Richard Keith Lanham, and is decked out with multiple floors, a working fireplace, and an open-kitchen. Sam Sifton awarded the place one star last June, describing the cuisine as "mostly well-prepared haute nursery food with a vague Continental accent it." Seems curious that the fairly new space would be in need of renovations so soon.
