Mission Chinese Food, San Francisco's white hot, charity-minded Chinese dive, makes its official debut in the former Rhong Tiam/Bia Garden space on Orchard Street tomorrow. But chef Danny Bowien did some test runs this weekend offering an open bar/open menu for those lucky enough to get an invite or happen by. Here, our reader Angela Pham was on the scene:
They seemed disappointed that customers were acting so tame/not taking advantage of the open bar. The space attempts to mimic the authenticity of a dingy Chinese hole-in-the-wall (which the one in SF does without effort). It's so small, and one can anticipate a much longer wait than the original SF shop. My favorite detail about the place is the totally off-brand Twin Peaks-themed bathrooms and cocktail titles. The meal was one of the most memorable I've had in NY.Click through for a look at this weekend's feast and a peek at the menu, and after the opening tomorrow, remember to email the tipline with all early feedback.
