After just a few months at the restaurant, Atera's Wine Director Alex LaPratt announced yesterday that he will no longer oversee the restaurant's deep and ambitious wine list. LaPratt broke the news on Facebook where he said, simply, "I wanted to make a general announcement that I have resigned from the Wine Director position at Atera restaurant. That is all."
The news comes as a bit of shock and rumor has it that the split was not amicable. But LaPratt, in response to a deluge of comments, went on to add this:
For all press inquires about my resignation at Atera: I have absolutely nothing bad to say about the restaurant or the owners. Everyone there is working extremely hard to give something great and unique to the dining community in New York and beyond. I strongly recommend that you check it out; it is a singular dining experience.
Both Atera and LaPratt did not respond to a request for comment. Stay tuned. And to all you sommeliers out there, there's a big ol' wine list in need of a wine director.
