Sad news for fans of Scotch cocktails: Lower East Side gastropub Mary Queens of Scots has closed for good. A worker at the the Highlands restaurant group (which also operates Whitehall and Highlands, both in the West Village) confirms the shuttering, noting that their last day was on Saturday. Some of the critics filed positive reviews of the restaurant, and Scotch snobs loved the bar program, but the restaurant was rarely filled to capacity, even on weekend nights. The space hit the market in February, so news of the shuttering doesn't come as too much of a surprise. No word yet on who will move into the space next.
