Indian Favorite Devi Shutters, Baluchi's Moving In

[Kalina, 11/27/05]
After seven years in business, Flatiron Indian staple Devi has finally called it quits. Earlier today Gael Greene tweeted that chef Suvir Saran was out of the project, and a call to the restaurant confirms that Devi actually closed for good on April 1. Their site notes: "Devi's current location will be Baluchi's restaurant, as the flagship of our Baluchi's brand." The Devi events company will continue to operate as its own entity.

Although most diners and critics loved Saran's refined Indian fare, the restaurant had some big set backs over the years — it notably closed for a spell in 2007, and in 2010 co-chef and partner Hermant Mathur left to open his own project, Tulsi. No word yet on when the new location of Baluchi's will open in the space.
