Is El Chod Handing Tanuki Tavern Over to Koch Bros?

New, 8 comments

News from the word of El Chod, as rumors are swirling that the restaurant kingpin is about to shutter his Japanese izakaya Tanuki Tavern in the Gansevoort Hotel. The rumors are that Chodorow will be inking a deal for a new restaurant that will be overseen by Daniel and Derek Koch, the brunch loving twins who recently became free agents after a disagreement over unpaid bills and licensing at the Ginza Group's MPD space just up the street.

When contacted, Chodorow told Eater that he "can only confirm that I'm in discussions concerning changes at the property", and that he would announce details when they are finalized. The Koch Bros have not yet responded to Eater's request for comment. It's not too much of a surprise, as the Tanuki concept never really made a dent in the dining world. Hopefully it works out better than their last operating deal.
