Neta, a modest new Japanese restaurant from former Masa and Bar Masa alums, opens today on West 8th Street. Small up and comers have had a hard time of it on this street, but hopefully the pedigree of the owners here and the focus on incredibly fresh sushi will make it viable.
The chefs, Nick Kim (once the head chef at Masa since 2004) and Jimmy Lau (once the head chef at Bar Masa), will offer an omakase sushi menu for $95 or $135, a selection of Japanese small plates—razor clam risotto with soy braised veal, chawan mushi with Dungeness crab—for $5- $18, and a full sushi menu where fulls tastings are $45 - 55.
The sushi bar seats 20 and the tables seat an additional 20 diners. Reservation at 212-505-2610.
