When Frank Castronovo and Falcinelli opened the newest Manhattan outpost of their mini empire in the West Village, Frankies 570, they spoke of the advanced Spanish training chef de cuisine Ryan Bartlow and how he was teaching the kitchen his techniques. But perhaps rustic Italian fare wasn't the right fit for him.
Today Flo Fab reports that, with Bartlow in tow, the Franks are closing Frankies 17, their second ever restaurant and a fixture on Clinton Street, and reopening the space as a Basque-style restaurant called Francesca that will serve pintxos, or Basque tapas. It will close on the 21st, reopen on the 23rd, and will feature wines from Spain, France, and Italy. As mentioned last week, Esca alum Katie O'Donnell has taken over Bartlow's duties at Frankies 570.
