Bar Boulud Wine Tasting; Duck Fest, Beer Bash, and More

Looking for something to do this weekend? Here are five choice dining events going on around the city:

Where: 1900 Broadway
When: Saturday, 3 - 5 PM
What: Daniel Boulud's casual Upper West Side restaurant is kicking off its "Saturdays at the Tasting Table" series this weekend, where guests can try six to eight different wines picked by sommelier Michael Madrigale, with small plates and charcuterie. This week's theme is "Rhone Rising Stars." Tickets for this afternoon tasting are available online.

Where: 43 East 7th Street
When: Sunday, 1 - 4 PM
What: Jimmy Carbone's East Village farm-to-table restaurant and bar is hosting a cooking competition where ten chef teams will prepared duck dishes using locally-sourced birds. Proceeds will benefit Food Systems Network NYC, a non-profit group that helps support local farms and nutrition programs in NYC. Tickets are $20.

2013_nyc_veetarian_food_fest12.jpg3) New York City Vegetarian Food Festival
Where: The Metropolitan Pavilion, 125 West 18th Street
When: Saturday and Sunday, 10 AM - 5 PM
What: A two-day celebration of vegetarian food, with tastings from a handful of the city's top vegetarian restaurants. A number of health and wellness vendors will be in attendance, and there will be seminars both days on various subjects related to the vegetarian lifestyle and animal advocacy. Purchase tickets in advance online.

2011_american_craft_beer12.jpg4) American Craft Beer Festival NYC
Where: Lexington Armory, 68 Lexington Avenue
When: 12:30 PM - 9:30 PM
What: A beer bash with tastings of ales from over 75 American craft brewers, seminars on beer-making, and food from a few local restaurants. Tickets are $45 - $135, and can be purchased online. (Many of the sessions are sold out, but there are still a few tickets left.)

Where: 113 E 29th Street; 94 University Place; 1431 1st Avenue
What: Three new restaurants are launching brunch this weekend. The menu at hot new Resto spinoff The Cannibal includes pastries, biscuits and gravy, egg sandwiches, country ham "potage," a cuban sandwich made with pig's head, and a grilled cheese sandwich with bacon and pork belly. Tortaria near Union Square is serving a menu of breakfast tortas and taquitos. For brunch, Numero 28 on the Upper East Side is offering baked goods, egg dishes, sandwiches, and pizzas.
