Tonight, Italian pizzaiolo Giulio Adriani opens the doors to his newest venture, New York's first fried-pizza-only pizzeria, La Montanara on Ludlow in the Lower East Side. Adriani, who first debuted the fried pies last year at his restaurant Forcella, has devoted this new spot solely to the new-fangled frying concept.
The menu sports four basic pies to choose from, with a classic margharita style called the Montanara (sauce, mozzarella, basil, and parmesan), and then three others with toppings like mushrooms, pepperoni, oregano and garlic. In addition to the pies, there's also fried pizza sandwiches, like one made with smoked mozzarella and porchetta and another with ham, mushrooms and truffle oil. And if all that's not enough, there's even a small list of appetizers and desserts, all-fried, all the time. Eleven bucks will score you an app, a Montanara and a dessert combo, which sounds like a pretty sweet deal. Check out the menu here.
