Chef Francis Derby OUT at King After Just Three Months

New, 20 comments

Gael Greene learns that Francis Derby, the chef at sexy Soho newcomer King, walked out over the weekend. Derby, who previously worked at wd~50 and Momofuku Ssam Bar, tells the former critic, “I never got the support I needed for the kind of food I do.” That's a shame too, because Gael really loved the food there on a recent visit.

A manager at King tells Eater that they have not replaced Derby, but that they currently have a more than capable sous chef who is going to step in and execute the current menu, perhaps with a few new changes — they sound relatively unfazed by his departure. No word yet on where Derby will head to next, but the restaurant certainly showed some promised while he was there. Perhaps he had an issue with those Champagne buttons.
