Stellina, the sandwich spot and dessert shop from chef Emma Hearst is in the process of shrinking. The windows of the year-old shop are papered over and Hearst tells Eater it's because she's ceding some of its space over to larger Italian sister restaurant Sorella. She says Sorella has been so busy it needs the extra space—about 25 seats—while Stellina can survive as a take-out only space with a window on Allen Street. She adds, "Stellina was always created with the idea of doing wholesale and expanding to other locations, and we think a smaller space makes the most sense."
The changes should be complete in the next six to eight weeks, and Stellina will maintain the same menu as before. Meanwhile, Hearst is still shopping for spaces for a new restaurant concept.
