Status: Opening Tonight
About a year and a half ago, when Marcus Samuelsson was gearing up to open his Harlem hit Red Rooster, the chef mentioned that he wanted to eventually have a speakeasy-themed subterranean lounge space. And tonight, that dream will finally become a reality with opening of Ginny's Supper Club.
The basement space has been renovated so that it now has a retro feel, somewhat reminiscent of Uptown speakeasies in the '30s, like the Cotton Club. Ginny's will feature DJs and live music nightly — mostly soul, swing, and R & B — and a full cocktail list, plus shareable plates of things like sliced steak and potato cake, jerk veal tongue, and fried chicken and waffles. Somewhere down the line, they also plan to host cooking classes, movie screening, open mics, and all sorts of other events. Ginny's will open at 6 PM nightly.
