The Charlotte Russe

2012_2_charlotte.jpgIn a new feature called Lost Foods, Capital New York explores the history of New York's version of the dessert Charlotte Russe, aka Brooklyn Ambrosia, that once enjoyed popularity in the city's sweet shops. Here it consisted of cake covered in whipped cream and topped with a cherry (and other optional toppings), and went out of fashion by the 1970s. One place to still get Charlotte Russes is Holtermann’s out on Staten Island. [CNY]
