Grandaisy Soho to Close; Bar Breton Becomes La Quenelle

New, 6 comments

Flo Fab reports this morning that this July the flagship location of Grandaisy Bakery (formerly called Sullivan Street Bakery) at 73 Sullivan Street will close. The sizable Grandaisy in Tribeca will remain open and become the new flagship. As far as we know, Jim Lahey's plans are still in the works to expand the Sullivan Street Bakery on West 47th Street and build one in Chelsea. (Correction/Note: Sullivan's Jim Lahey and the owner of Grandaisy once worked together but the businesses are not related.)

In other news, Cyril Renaud, the chef and owner of Bar Breton (and of the departed Fleur de Sel) has revamped his Fifth Avenue restaurant. Now called Quenelle, the restaurant features more French classic fare including foie gras, escargot, rack of lamb, and quenelles de brochet inspired by the version served at La Caravelle. It used to focus on crepes, but he's "tired" of them.
