New, 10 comments

Today, the James Beard Foundation announced the semifinalists for this year's restaurant and chef awards. The final nominees will be named on March 19 and will be streamed live on Eater National. Of note: Taavo Somer's esoteric little Williamsburg restaurant Isa made the Best New Restaurant semifinalist list alongside Tertulia and underrated West Village newcomer Tremont, and a little unknown chef named David Chang is on the list in the Outstanding Chef category for his work at Momofuku Ssam Bar. Here, New York's standout semifinalist candidates:

Best New Restaurant: Isa, Tertulia, Tremont
Outstanding Bar Program: PDT, Pegu Club
Outstanding Chef: David Chang, Daniel Humm
Outstanding Pastry Chef: Ghaya Oliveira (Boulud Sud), Bob Truitt (Ai Fiori)
Outstanding Restaurant: Balthazar, Blue Hill
Outstanding Restaurateur: Bruce Bromberg and Eric Bromberg, Phil Suarez
Rising Star Chef: Noah Bernamoff (Mile End), Emma Hearst (Sorella), Jesse Schenker (Recette), Max Sussman (Roberta’s), Christina Tosi (Momofuku Milk Bar)

The awards will take place at a gala event on Monday, May 7 at Lincoln Center’s Avery Fisher Hall.
