Soon, the Brooklyn Kitchen won't be the only cooking hub in North Brooklyn. Borough President Marty Markowitz announced yesterday at his State of the Borough address that art space/education center 3rd Ward will receive a $1.5 million grant to build a culinary incubator that will "provide culinary entrepreneurs with the tools, equipment, and workspace that they would otherwise not be able to afford."
The culinary center will be in a separate building from Bushwick's 3rd Ward but it will located in a neighborhood like Bushwick, Bed-Stuy, or East New York. It will feature a commercial kitchen and will offer cooking classes as well as a space for entrepreneurs to develop new products. Similar but smaller scale incubators—minus the cooking school aspect—are also in the works in Greenpoint and Williamsburg.
Meanwhile plans are still in the works to open up 3rd Ward cafes here and in Philadelphia.
