Hurricane Sandy destroyed Almondine's Dumbo kitchen. Chef Hervé Poussot closed the South Slope location of the bakery after the storm, and now it looks like the shop will not be coming back to life. South Slope News notes that a "for rent" sign is currently hanging on the space.
Poussot set up a Go Fund Me account to raise the $200,000 needed to get his business back in shape, and some of the best pastry chefs in the city recently hosted a pop-up to raise money for Almondine. Chef Poussot is still cleaning up the Dumbo location in the hopes of reopening next year. Stay tuned for more on Almondine's rebuilding process in the next few days.
