Here's something really uplifting just in time for the holidays: 20 Red Hook restaurants have teamed up to make an adorable e-cookbook with the recipes to some of their most popular dishes. Recipes in the book?called All Hands on Deck?include the pork and chive dumplings from The Good Fork, the flourless chocolate torte from Home/Made, and the Irish coffee from Fort Defiance. (And don't forget that Fort Defiance is owned by the cocktail writer St. John Frizzell, so that's going to be a solid recipe.) Other businesses involved in the book include Baked, Sunny's Bar, and more.
All Hands on Deck is edited by a couple of Red Hook residents, Zac and Catherine Overman, who, according to Pete Wells, were married in a quintessentially Red Hook-ian affair in October and were on their honeymoon in France when Sandy hit. Zac is a bartender at Fort Defiance and freelance graphic designer, while Catherine is an editor of a trade mag. The Village Voice's Tejal Rao added a foreward and Vicky Wasik, photo editor of Edible Brooklyn, is responsible for the food porn.
All proceeds from the book's sales are going straight to Restore Red Hook, the community organization created to help the heavily storm-damaged neighborhood's small businesses. So far sales have raised close to $500 for the group, still a ways off from the $5,000 goal.
