Runner & Stone is a new bakery and New American restaurant?the brick-and-mortar for a Smorgasburg and Brooklyn Flea favorite?on Third Avenue in Gowanus. It's a joint project of Peter Endriss, formerly the head baker at Per Se and Bouchon, and Chris Pizzulli, the former executive chef at Blue Ribbon Brasserie in Park Slope. The two floor space, composed of the main service area and a mezzanine, is in a renovated law office just across the street from Littleneck and The Pines, Gowanus's other recent, big-name openings.

Runner & Stone opened for breakfast and lunch on Wednesday, with dinner launching tonight. The breakfast menu unsurprisingly focuses on Endriss's breads and pastries, while the lunch offerings include a handful of sandwiches and salads, plus a daily soup. Dinner is where it gets really exciting, though: Pizzulli's menu starts with a handful of heart appetizers like the grappa-cured striped bass and the short rib soup, following up with a selection of pastas and entrées, like roasted chicken and grilled ribeye. The wine list has a special emphasis on orange wines, with a number of those available by the glass and the bottle.
