The people behind Eater Award-winning Miami restaurant Yarbird Southern Table & Bar are currently scouting locations for a New York outpost of their southern-fried hit. Restaurateur John Kunkel tells Grub Street: "We are looking for a space about 5,000 square feet that would hold 175 seats, and in New York, you can be a block off and miss 20 to 30 percent of your business." He thinks that Park Slope might be the right fit.
Since opening in October of 2011, Yardbird has become one of the critical darlings of the Miami scene. Andrew Knowlton named it one of his top 50 new restaurants in Bon Apppetit, and the restaurant was a semifinalist for the James Beard Awards for Best New Restaurant, 2012. Chef Jeff McInnis was a contestant on Season 5 of Top Chef. Kunkel tells Grub Street that Yardbird NYC is "a project for the coming year." People go crazy for McInnis's fried chicken and cheddar waffles.
