Chef David Santos earned raves from the Chowhound set for his Um Segredo supper club, which he hosted in his apartment on Roosevelt Island. Before striking it out on his own, Santos worked as a sous chef at Bouley, as the chef de partie at Per Se, and as the executive chef at 5 & Diamond and Hotel Griffou. And now, Santos has opened a real, full-service restaurant of his own called Louro. Here's a look around the space, which formerly housed Lowcountry and Bar Blanc.
Louro
The menu here skews New American, but there are some sharp international influences — note the piri piri shrimp, the boar sausage with spaetzle, and the salmon tartare in a yuzu broth. The regular menu is served Tuesday through Sunday, and on Monday nights, the chef will offer a version of the meals that he cooked for the Um Segredo supper club. Email nossamesa@louronyc.com if you want to make a reservation for one of those dinners. As you may recall, Santos set up a Kicktarter campaign earlier this year to help get the doors open — he raised $25,000 in nine days. Check out the space and the menu above, and do send any early reports our way.
