Bridge Cafe Owners Hope to Reopen This Winter

The historic Bridge Cafe is still closed because of damage caused by Hurricane Sandy. Three weeks after the storm, the owners of the tavern wrote a note to their guests on a chalkboard sign that read, "With some luck, we will serve again soon." Now the sign has a much less hopeful message. It looks like the restaurant won't be open for two or three more months. The Bridge Cafe space has been in operation in one form or another since 1794, making it the oldest restaurant in New York City.
