Looking for something to do this weekend? Here are five choice dining events going on around the city:
1) Ivan Orkin and Shigetoshi Nakamura Make Ramen for Sandy Relief:
When: Today, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Where: Smorgasburg
What: Ramen masters Ivan Orkin and Shigetoshi Nakamura of Sun Noodle are teaming up for a day filled with ramen. The duo will be slinging 300 bowls of hot noodles all day at Smorgasburg's Williamsburg location. The sales of the tonkotsu-gyokai and toasted whole wheat noodle ramen bowls will benefit the Brooklyn Recovery Fund's Sandy relief efforts.
2) Peck Slip Pickle Fest:
When: Sunday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Where: Fulton Fish Market
What: The New Amsterdam Market will host their second annual pickle festival tomorrow at the Fulton Fish Market. Vendors from around the city and beyond, including Jacob's Pickles, Rick's Picks, McClure's Pickles, and Mother-in-Law Kimchi, will be selling their goods. There will also be pickling demonstrations and pickling and fermenting competitions. This year the event will serve as a fundraiser for NYC residents and small businesses affected by Hurricane Sandy.
3) Thanksgiving Wine Pairing Class:
When: Today, 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Where: Bottlerocket Wine and Spirit
What: Get in the Thanksgiving spirit with this wine pairing class at the Flatiron's Bottlerocket Wine and Spirits. Learn what wines pair with turkey, mashed potatoes, and pumpkin pie at this wine tutorial. Spoon Catering Co. will provide samples of 12 traditional Thanksgiving dishes, and Bottlerocket will pair each dish with a taste of wine. Tickets are $20, and guests will received a $10 discount on any bottles purchased this afternoon. This event benefits another good cause as all profits will be donated to City Harvest.
4) Lobsterpalooza:
When: Sunday, all day
Where: The Brooklyn Kitchen
What: Tomorrow kicks off Lobsterpalooza at The Mermaid Inn's East Village and Oyster Bar locations. All winter long, these two locations will be serving a pound and a quarter of lobster, red bliss potatoes, corn on the cob, and coleslaw for $25 as part of their Downtown Deals in support of #DineOutNYC, a movement to motivate people to dine out in restaurants throughout the city in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.
5) Caviar Brunch:
When: Sunday, 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Where: Caviar Russe
What: Caviar Russe, in Midtown East, launches a brand new three-course caviar brunch tomorrow. The brunch costs $95 per person, and includes a glass of champagne or a cocktail, and a caviar-centric menu with dishes like soft scrambled eggs with smoked sturgeon sabayon and caviar, hand cut tagliolini over a farm egg and caviar, and caramelized brioche with white chocolate and caviar. For reservations, call 212-980-5908 or email info@caviarrusse.com.
Also of Note: Both locations of Smorgasburg are on for this weekend. The New Amsterdam Market is open for business as well. Looking to try a new restaurant this weekend?
