City Grit to Take in Chefs Displaced by Hurricane Sandy

Photo

Sarah Simmons's Nolita pop-up City Grit is, like the entire surrounding area, still without power. Simmons sent out an email blast earlier today estimating that the operation has lost about $30,000 in wasted food and lost income as a result of Hurricane Sandy. The storm also made her reschedule a couple of upcoming dinners, like tomorrow's Southern Shabbat and Monday's Cinco de Noviembre events.

Once City Grit is open, however, Simmons plans to invite chefs whose restaurants may be closed even longer to come in and cook. That gives those chefs a chance to work, while giving consumers a chance to come in and support them. And that's awesome. Chefs looking for a space can reach out to them by email or on the Twitter.
