Status: Opening Tonight
In just an hour and a half, a hospitality dream team — essentially the Avengers of the downtown restaurant world — will open a brand new project on the mezzanine of the Public Theater on Lafayette St. called The Library. Chef Andrew Carmellini and restaurateur Luke Ostrom join the Joe's Pub partners (Paul Salmon, Kevin Abbott, Serge Becker, and Josh Pickard) in creating this new project, which they are billing as an "Astor-era cocktail lounge." Carms tapped Locanda Verde chef Michael Oliver to run the show here day-to-day.
Starters on the food menu include seafood gumbo, mussels with chorizo, chicken wings, and St. Louis-style ribs. The entree list features rigatoni with sausage and broccoli rabe, short rib goulash, and curry chicken with coconut rice. And for bar bites, guests can order things like mini Maine crab rolls, chicken tacos, and "pizza popcorn."
The Library opens for dinner tonight at 5:30 p.m, and the space will stay open till 2 a.m., nightly. Check back later this week for photos of the restaurant, and take a peek at the opening menu below.
