RED HOOK — This afternoon, the team from Fort Defiance — a Red Hook restaurant that was hit hard by Hurricane Sandy — hosted a communal cookout in front of Home/Made. The late lunch included burgers, grilled chicken, potato salad, and a lot of conversation between members of the community about weathering the storm. Eater co-founder Lockhart Steele snapped these pics from the cookout. [EaterWire]

HURRICANE WATCHSome of the worst damage from Hurricane Sandy is in Atlantic City, New Jersey, where much of the city's famous Boardwalk was destroyed. Eater National runs a gallery of images from Sammy Hagar's Beach Bar & Grill, which is currently closed for the season but got a pretty severe beating from the storm. [Eater National]

BUSHWICKDear Bushwick will host a Guy Fawkes night party on November 5, where chef Jessice Wilson will serve things like roasted lamb, jacket spuds, beer sausages on sticks, and cheese fondue. The party will also feature a bonfire in the backyard, plus live music. Email the restaurant to make a reservation for the dinner party.
