FP Pâtisserie
1293 Third Avenue, Upper East Side
Projected Opening Date: October 29
Next week, pastry chef extraordinaire Francois Payard will return to the Upper East Side with the opening of his new combination bakery/restaurant/tea salon, FP Pâtisserie. Unlike his downtown bakeries, this one will not serve breads, just sweets and few savory items. To drink, FP Pâtisserie will also offer tea, wine, beer, and Champagne, and the space will include a 14-seat bar. Payard tells Flo Fab: "People will complain that I'm being too French but this will be just a pastry shop, like in France, more refined than the bakery. I need to be more feminine on the Upper East Side."
Recently opened bakery/cafes Maison Kayser and Sugar and Plumm Purveyors of Yumm are perpetually packed, and FP Pâtisserie will most likey be a hit as well. Remember: Rich women go crazy for comfortable, slightly ritzy cafes where they can eat pastries, drink coffee or wine, and talk forever and ever.
