Two months ago, Ken Friedman and April Bloomfield opened a surprise rooftop bar atop the Pod 39 Hotel in Midtown. At the time, Friedman noted that he eventually wanted to serve "April Bloomfield-style" tacos here, made with things like pig ears and sweetbreads, as well as other, more traditional tacos, made by a mystery chef.
Now, Bloomfield and Friedman are planning a full restaurant on the ground floor of the space, which is set to open in the coming weeks. Team Spotted Pig tells Eater that the bar area of this restaurant is now open with a menu of cocktails by Hotel Delmano vet Sam Anderson, plus snacks. The rooftop space will also stay open until the end of the season, with heat lamps for when it gets chilly out there. Although nothing is confirmed just yet, Eater hears that a talented chef from a very good, perhaps underrated Mexican restaurant may be involved with the food program.
