The single item menu trend is alive and well at La Maison Du Croque Monsieur, a new East Village restaurant that specializes in pressed cheese sandwiches. The new shop is owned by the same guys that operate UES gastropub Jones Wood Foundry. One of them explains: "It was important that you can change the cheese...The classic one is made with Gruyere, but doing it with cheddar or Comte or Chimay can take it to another level." [NYDN]
