Van Leeuwen Owners Opening Balinese Restaurant Soon

New, 14 comments

Back in June, Eater floated the rumor that the people behind artisanal ice cream shop Van Leeuwen were planning a Balinese restaurant in Greenpoint. Now Gothamist learns that their new project is just about ready to go.

The new restaurant, which is called Selamat Pagi, will be open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner daily. The owners tapped former Otto chef Sophia Loch to run the kitchen. Owner Laura O'Neill explains, "You can't get good Balinese food in New York...You can get Indonesian, but not specifically Balinese, which is sort of a mix between Indian and Thai, but unique." In addition to dishes like beef Rendang and Balinese fried rice, O'Neill plans to serve an avocado and coconut ice cream for dessert. Selamat Pagi is slated to open at the end of next week at 152 Driggs Avenue, which is just a block away from McGolrick Park.
