The Rainbow Room has officially been designated a landmark by the New York City Landmark Preservation Commission, an unsurprising event after both preservationists and the space's landlords supported the move at a public hearing last month. As the Observer reports, the Streamlined Modern space?which was opened in 1934, lightly remodeled in the 1980s, and closed in 2009?is one of 115 interior landmarks in the city. Now Tishman Speyer just needs to announce the new operator and get that space functional again.
