Darryl Strawberry's Queens Sports Bar Shutters

Former Mets and Yankees star Darryl Strawberry shuttered his Douglaston restaurant after service yesterday. The exact cause of the shutter isn't exactly clear?the Queens Courier calls Strawberry's Sports Grill a "hotspot" and a "popular dive," pinning the restaurant's downfall primarily on one manager who recently quit. Despite checks bouncing last week, the Courier cites anonymous employees saying that their Strawberry love runs deep, blaming neither Darryl Strawberry nor his brother Michael, who actually ran the restaurant. In a Facebook post this morning, the Strawberry brothers say only that "things have just run their course."

It's been a bad year for the mini-market of themed sports bars named after Yankees players, with Strawberry's closure following the shutter of Mickey Mantle's this spring.
