4Food, the strangest fast food restaurant that has ever opened in New York City, is headed east to Japan. Nation's Restaurant News learns that the owners of the Midtown burger joint hope to open in Tokyo or Osaka in the third or fourth quarter of 2013. The menu will be similar to the one in NYC, but with a few tweaks for the Japanese marketplace. But make no mistake: The restaurant will still specialize in donut-shaped burgers that can be filled with things like mac-and-cheese, grits, braised fennel, mofongo, eggplant parmesan, and apple stuffing.
Managing partner Michael Shuman says that the company wants to open smaller "spoke" locations around NYC. Perhaps 2013 will be the year that New York City (and the rest of the world) catches donut-hole-burger mania.
