1) Williamsburg: After abruptly closing and sitting vacant for a few months, the old Blackbird space on Bedford and North 6th Street has been filled by Kitten Coffee. From their website, Kitten Coffee is a gourmet roaster supplying premium espresso beans and regular coffees to the cafes, bars and restaurants of New York City. 2) East Village: EV Grieve reports on the opening of organic hamburger restaurant BareBurger in the former Sin Sin spot on 2nd Avenue. BareBurger is seeking a beer and wine license at tonight's Community Board 3 committee meeting. Status: Certified Open; 2nd Avenue and 5th Street.
3) Williamsburg: Australian java joint, Toby’s Estate Coffee, opened their first U.S. location in Brooklyn today. Toby’s will be serving breakfast, lunch and dessert and Australian comfort food. According to their press materials, “A marble bar encourages interaction between customers and the baristas they will order directly from, making the experience akin to a cocktail bar.” They will also have a Brew School. 4) Park Slope: Here's Park Slope dishes on home-style Italian restaurant Va Beh that opened last week. This husband and wife owned restaurant wants to do simple, great Italian food from the highest quality ingredients. Status: Certified Open; 446 Dean St., 718-678-4200.
