I don't normally right letters to complain about other restaurants, as I am a restaurant worker myself, but I just need to get something off my chest.

I am done with the Fatty Cue/Crab/etc restaurants. Never again. I would rarely try and try again to understand why these restaurants are so praised. I'd put up with the douchebag hipster crowd, the uncomfortable tables and chairs, the lack of space, being crammed in next to 45 other douchebags, dealing with servers who for some reason have no ability to communicate effectively with other human beings, who have no menu knowledge or wine knowledge, all to be able to try Zak's food. The last time his food was great was at the beginning of 5 Ninth. I just don't get it, I don't get the hype.

But the KICKER happened last night. I wanted to grab a quick bite after work last night, when I got off work around 1 AM. I was excited that Fatty Cue had a late night menu, advertised here — 12 AM - 2 AM. Sweet. And Eric Asimov had just given them 2 stars, and Eric Asimov is basically the greatest restaurant writer of all time and the only critic at the New Times in the last decade who knew what he was talking about.

So I arrive at 1:15 ON THE DOT, to be informed that the kitchen is closed.

IF YOU DON'T WANT TO SERVE FOOD PAST 1:15 AM, THEN DO NOT SAY YOU ARE OPEN. ITS FUCKING SIMPLE. Say that you are open till 2 AM, but the kitchen closes at 1:00 am, or whenever you want. Now I understand that late night customers are frustrating, but if you are a place that has a LATE NIGHT MENU, and you advertise that you are OPEN TILL 2 AM, you had better Goddamn well serve food that late. Fatty Cue wasn't even empty, there were probably 15 guests inside.

I have never had this problem at any of Jason Denton's awesome restaurants (Ino, Inotecas, etc), or the Blue Ribbon restaurants - so I walked my ass down to Blue Ribbon Bar and had a great time.

So Fatty Cue, Fatty Crab, Zak Pelaccio - I am done with you. Forever. And I hope other people are too.
