Last month Bowery Boogie reported and EMM Group reps denied that the owners of Abe & Arthur's, Lexington Brass, and Catch are seeking to open a new project in the former BLVD club space at 199 Bowery. And today we get confirmation.
On Monday, reps from the restaurant/club group will go before Community Board 3 to present the space, and there's a petition online laying out their plans. Funnily enough, an EMM worker sent the petition to the 1,300 members of downtown mommy group Bowery Babes in the hopes that they would sign, an interesting proposition given their other venues aren't necessarily family-oriented. But no matter, it will be good to have something in that defunct space. Let's get to those sweet specs:
The space is 20,000 square feet, and it will house a bakery, a tapas lounge, and a restaurant "with Latin/Asian flavors." They promise it will "be a responsible neighbor, bring great quality food, and add an additional 200 jobs to a thriving area of Manhattan."
Remember, Michael Stillman recently won approval from the Community Board to open a downtown location of Quality Meats there, but apparently the deal fell through. Hopefully the people at EMM will be able to make a go of it.
