Longtime Avenue B stalwart Max is expanding once again. A few years ago, they brought their basic and affordable Italian fare to Tribeca, and now brokers reveal they signed a lease on South 2nd Street and Driggs in Williamsburg. It should have a similar menu to the other locations—homemade lasagna, spaghetti and meatballs, eggplant parmigiana—and, according to owner Luigi Iasilli, will open this spring.
The owners of Max looked into expanding within the East Village in 2010, even going so far as to appear before Community Board 3 for a liquor license, but the deal never went through. The area they're expanding into is a burgeoning one in Williamsburg and is within blocks of Rye, St. Anselm, the Momofuku Commissary, Fette Sau, The Commodore, and in the other direction, Pies 'n' Thighs and Dram.
